Notes on the compilation of Journal of the Study on Religion and History

In the current disciplinary structure of religion and history, the former is placed under the first-level discipline of philosophy, and there is no categorization of the history of religion under the first-level discipline of history. However, in actual research, the intersection and overlap between the two is obvious. The Department of History at Shanghai University and the Center for the Study of Religion and Chinese Society at Shanghai University have been working together with scholars at home and abroad on the study of religion and history. At present, the field of research has gradually expanded from the history of Protestant Christianity to the study of Catholicism and other religious fields. In the context of today's great integration of disciplines, we also hope to draw on the theories and methods of different disciplines, such as sociology, psychology, and political science, to promote the study of religion and history. To this end, the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at Shanghai University is launching the “Religion and History Series” to provide a forum for interested researchers, especially young scholars, to publish their results and to witness the continuous development of the study of religion and history.
